Upcoming course dates:
12th - 19th October 2019

 

An indulgent experience exploring the Périgord region's culinary and cultural delights. In small groups of up to 18 people, we will undertake optional daily excursions of markets, historical towns, vineyards and artisan food producers, discovering famous local dishes and flavours as we go. As well as sampling several menus at local reputed restaurants throughout the week, guests will also enjoy Matt and Katie's cooking on site.

Course Itinerary

WHAT'S INCLUDED

  • Seven nights accommodation and full board (inc. several visits to local restaurants)

  • Two vineyard tours and wine tasting

  • Three market tours, with tastings

  • At least three visits to artisan food producers

 

Day 1

  • Shake off the tarnish of travelling with a dip in the pool. Enjoy settling into our lovely rooms before drinks and dinner are served in the evening

Day 2

  • Visit Aubeterre-sur-Dronne market and monolithic church. Officially listed as one of 'The Most Beautiful Villages in France' since 1993. Aubeterre boasts an exceptional cultural heritage which, combined with its beautiful natural surroundings and the famous French 'art de vivre', makes it the perfect place to visit

  • Sundowner drinks and dinner

  • Calvados or a hot drink under the awesome starry sky

Day 3

  • Visit a beautiful mill where local producers press walnuts and hazelnuts. As well as learning about the oil making process, you will also get a chance to sample their wares. Look out for their oils in our menu

  • Gourmet picnic lunch

  • A true gourmet experience, discover how caviar is made in the region & enjoy a taste of pure luxury

  • Sundowner drinks and dinner

Day 4

  • Visit the Bergerac wine region

  • Take a tour of a fantastic vineyard and taste a range of their superb wines. Later in the week, you will get another chance to enjoy these when we visit Moulin du Pont or dinner

  • Enjoy a relaxed lunch at a local restaurant before taking a tour of Château de Monbazillac in the afternoon and tasting the renowned sweet wine

  • Enjoy a selection of classical and jazz pieces in the evening at Villa Nightingale whilst enjoying drinks and dinner

Day 5

  • Travel to Perigueux market and enjoy exploring the historic center whilst tasting local delicacies such as the canelé over coffee, or even a platter of oysters with a glass of white wine

  • Lunch in local Perigueux restaurant

  • Discover the beautiful Château de Bourdeilles, a fortress dating back to the 13th century, constructed on a rocky spur and dominated by an octagonal keep. The octagonal keep is 35meters high and it is possible to climb to the top and get some superb views of the village of Bourdeilles below.

  • Sundowner drinks and dinner

Day 6

  • Spend the morning enjoying a tour to discover how the local Pineau des Charentes and Cognac is made and enjoy as an aperitif

  • Then head to Villa Nightingale for lunch and a well deserved afternoon off enjoying the beautiful scenery

  • Drinks and dinner in the evening

Day 7

  • Visit the uniquely stunning Brantôme market

  • Take a look around the shops that are situated within the caves around the town

  • Enjoy a gourmet picnic lunch

  • Explore le terroir of the region in the afternoon with a visit to a truffle and saffron family run business. These folks have been in the same place for 300 years and their respect for what they do is second to none

  • Round off the week relishing a delicious evening meal at the reputed Moulin du Pont situated on the bank of Le Dronne
